BA 420 just replaced, and already has problems ? ( Freezes )

[ Edited ]

Hi guys...

It's about 1 month I replaced previous BlackArmor 420 with a new one under warranty, and now I start getting new problems with this one too...

1st of all, I noticed this drive was far slower at booting than the previous one I had, but I gave not any importance to this... it may need 4 or 5 minutes to became operative... and this may be it was already a warning...

However, t worked perfectly for about 40 Days, but then, it starts to hang after some time of running... It does not matters if it is sending data, in standby, or under any other situation... After some hours the drive hangs...

No reply on the network, both as Drive or Control panel Web access... No reply to panel buttons pressure, no reply to power button pressure... Only way to get it back, is to abruptly remove supply, and then put it back...

I tried also to upload the latest FW from Seagate, and it has been a nightmare... All worked fine, till the drive arrived to reboot phase... It hanged with the 'booting' write for about 30 minutes, I thought all was lost, but then, it exited from boot phase, but did not worked anymore... I switched it off, and at power up, it started telling me it was reading the new flash image, with orange led, and again, remained in such a state for about 30 minutes... Then it get green again, and rebooted, and again hanged at 'booting' phase... Again, had to switch it off after a lot of time, and again, at switch on, started to 'read Flash image', but this time, reached the 'Extracting...' phase... I think this is not a regular upload procedure...

However, this last time it worked, and the drive was on again, but... No joy... Even with latest FW the drive seems to hang randomly after some time..

Once, after switching off and on ( I usually wait 1 minute before switching back on ) it hanged reporting 'warning:foreign disks detected'... Or something like that... And another time with a message about 'System buildup'...

I thought of temperature problem, but the drive has a lot of space around it, even if 44 Degrees Centigrade it reports by its panel when in standby seems quite hi to me, however, the FAN is reported running ( about 1150 RPM ), and I checked, it really runs, even if the airflow seems quite low to me...

Right now, to check messages, I switched it OFF and ON by power switch ( it was working regularly now ), and, the drive is now hanging with blue led flashing, and 'System Warning : HasForeignDsk(s)' message... no reply to power off button pressure... :smileysad:

Of course, the disks it has are the original ones the Drive came with...

Should I think that for 2nd time I have a defective drive...?

Any check I could to...?

Thanks for any advice or help...

Kool...

I found that at the back of the NAS, there is a little label reporting 'Seagate certified repair'...

As this NAs was delivered while mine was yet at the collection point, would it mean that I got an old ( FW version was .06xx ) repaired NAS in exchanged of an almost scratch new ( only 5 months of use ) NAS under warranty...? :smileyindifferent:
