Does this include any bug fixes? Is there a revisions list for this update other than the Global Access support? I see it is marked as Critical, is that just the Global Access enhancements?

Re: Release notes

Tappin is already leaps and bounds better than Seagate Global Access because I can access my files remotely. Congrats on that big step. What needs to be improved immediately is the remote upload function through the seagate.tappin.com site. Files must be uploaded one at a time. This is crazy. I want to use my Blackarmor NAS as a remote office network drive and I will have multiple files to upload on a daily basis. Through the webapp I have to click individual files to upload. Please work with Tappin to create an upload folder or upload multiple file tool so that I don't have to click and browse multiple times. This is something I feel strongly about and will be vocal about it until this is resolved. If Seagate wants to compete with Netgear and Synology then they need to work out these remote access issues ASAP.

I still can't delete the hidden TB files after this update 1000.1301.

Did it work by someone else? Or is there a solution? something I first have to do before I can delete the items?

Its really frustrated :smileysad:

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

The FIRMWARE PAGE is not updated with the latest version !!!!!!!!!!! amazing, still the 1000.1221 version instead of the

BA NAS 110 = 1000.1301

If you try to download the

Software Download Page for BlackArmor CD ISO Image

at

http://www.seagate.com/support/external-hard-drives/network-storage/blackarmor-nas-110/

with Safari 5.17, the contents is displayed on screen instead of being downloaded !

Solution: copy the url of the img file, paste it in Firefox.

The

Software Download Page for BlackArmor CD ISO Image

The BlackArmor CD ISO Image is a file containing the entire contents of the Seagate BlackArmor NAS CD-ROM. Learn more

DOes NOT download anything !!!!!!

Amazing so poor support and quality.

Not only the NAS 110 is slow as a floppy, the firmware s...ks

Don't worry, for me, Seagate is the last one and I will inform the low quality of support and device on all web site: amazon, ebay... dev web sites...

A shame !

Re: Release notes

Alan M,

I'm pleased to advise that all 3 of my BlackArmor servers (110,220 & 440) are enjoying the new feature of Tappin firmware update. Additionally I am also able to delete the tb. folders too.

Two requests for future updates please?;

1; Correct thumbnail support for music files stored of BlackArmor servers. As has been discussed elsewhere, the current thumbnail is a generic bright pink square with the word "music" slashed diagonally across it. To have the actual tagged thumbnail pic displayed, irrespective of file type would be fabulous!

2; Email notification feature correctly working again. This feature is an invaluable method of advising up to 5 clients when a reboot is about to occur, LAN down etc.. It has been a long time since it worked correctly on all 3 of  my servers.

Thanks for setting up Tappin for Global Access, its great to have this up & running again.

Regards,

Liger_M

not available...NOT? So errr...is this a joke? I can't see any new releases on BlackArmor NAS 110 site for firmware, except for sg1000-1000.1221 which I just installed because I found out that it doesn't popup in the login page automatically.

Now there's a 1000.1301 which seems to be cooler but there's no link to the download? :smileysurprised: Why did we get the release notes then if it doesn't exist?

I would appreciate it if someone could give me the link if it exist, and if not tell what the point was with this Sticky thread. Thanks^^

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

At last a firmware update for the 110. Since purchasing this NAS several months ago I have had a couple of problems:

1. when I connect a dlna certified device and activate the media server on the NAS, the NAS is recognised but after about 10 minutes of playing music the NAS media service seems to crash. the only option is to stop and restart the media service which will give me another 10 minutes of play time until the next crash!

2. folders could not be deleted.

Have just installed the new firmware and the folder delete problem seems to be solved, however the media server is still very unreliable and crashes repeatedly. Quite a pain as this was one of the main reasons for me purchasing this device. Either seagate gets this sorted or it will definitely be my last seagate product.

Looking forward to the next official update.

July is over after tomorrow.

People seem to find it but I see no links from the MOD's post. So help a bro, k? :smileyhappy:

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

Does anyone have the firmware update files?  For a NAS110?  I can't even get a crummy old firmware update, because everything I can download is in an archaic format, or is not a valid image file.  I have gotten my drive to talk to iTunes, finally, but that seems to be the extent of its powers.  I can't copy stuff to it, or off...I can't access it remotely...I can't get an up to date directory listing (It still shows folders that haven't been present for months).

Alternatively, Seagate: Throw me a freaking bone!!!  You've been absent long enough, already!!

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

ymgagnon, the latest firmware update was a limited release and is unavailable again for the time being.

You mentioned in your post the inability to copy files to the drive. Can you provide me with specifics here so that I can help you get this resolved? The exact wording of any error messages would be extremely helpful. What types of files are you usually copying over when this happens? What operating system is in use?

What do you mean when you mention "I can't even get a crummy old firmware update, because everything I can download is in an archaic format, or is not a valid image file." Please elaborate so that we can address this.

When you try to get a directory listing, how do you go about it? Can you include screenshots here that would help me understand better what the situation is?

[ Edited ]
Please ask the dev team to contribute a kernel to Debian Squeeze with iptables. It would be incredibly nice to utilize the BlackArmor 400 as a gateway on top of being a NAS, with its two ethernet ports and 512MB of RAM it could load the root filesystem to RAM and spin up the disks only when necessary. This is ideal for power-saving, but even using plain vanilla Debian Squeeze would add countless features to your product.

One of my more astute clients has discovered (not from this thread, I hasten to add!) that Nas 220 firmware 2000.1331 is now available.

Where are the release notes, Seagate?

What does it fix?

Do you have javascript disabled? I think it might be using javascript for the pop up window. It should look like the attached image in chrome and FF. After accepting policy etc it should give you the link to download the image

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

Unfortunately exactly as I had feared, DLNA media server still unusable. I would have thought, that after so long since the last stable update, and so many complaints about the poor functionality of the media server (you only need to google), this would have been one major point to address. Such a shame, could be such a good product.

DLNA server shuts down on its own in regular intervals ranging from 5 to 15 minutes. The only way to reset it is to log into the WEB interface as admin, uncheck the box of the media server, click submit, recheck the box and re-submit. The server then operates ok for the next 5 to 15 minutes or so, after which the media server crashes again. This is not a DLNA problem on the client side as I have tried this now with 3 different devices, both over WIFI and cable:

Pioneer X-SMC5 Hifi

Samsung galaxy s running Bubble PNP

IMAC running XBMC

For goodness sake Seagate will you please either get your DLNA server running properly, or stop marketing your products as being DLNA compatible. I am extremely disappointed.

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

Hello, I have not done very last update but previous one which contains the same functionalities (same changelog) and I'm able to do the following things through the network (all devices connected to the router) :

- Play a NAS 110 mkv file on my LG TV (note that it is also posible to connect the NAS directly to the TV !)

- play a NAS 110 mkv file on my LG BLU-RAY player ;

- Play a NAS 110 mkv file selected with my phone GALAXY S (ALLSHARE SAMSUNG application) on my LG TV (selected through ALLSHARE too) - that's very funny to be able to launch a movie on the TV through the mobile !

The only trouble I have is that sometimes when my computer is started the LG TV doesn't give acess to the DLNA (but the LG BLU-RAY player always does !), there is probably a conflict with NERO or POWERDVD media server functionalities.

So if according to your troubles, it is probably not a software problem but a hardware or network one.

The main issue I have (in addition to trouble explained above) is that LG TV doesn't play subtitle from DLNA mkv movies (.srt included), the LG BLU-RAY does but doesn't display properly 3D MKV subtitles.

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

I have just updated my NAS420 with fw 4000.1411 today and I am still not able to delete the .tb folders and files .jpg.jpg created in them.

How can you announced something which the update is not doing?

How long do we have to wait until we can delete these annoying folders and files?

It looks not as a serious support for customers.

If you delete the share, then recreate it, the issue should be fixed. Let me know how it works out.

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

[ Edited ]

firmware working fine for me for my BA220, in general. I don't know if I use the itunes server as intended. my library is stored on the nas but accessed via my windows 7 laptop with no issues. slightly slow sync with my ipod but that's partially down to itunes as well. I'm guessing that most people have the itunes library on the computer and the nas provides a bridge to the library? not sure but it works the way i required it to work.

my tv (sony bravia) accesses my network over wifi and the nas via ethernet, no real issues accessing music library mentioned above directly on my tv, takes a little bit of time to list all the albums via that view due to the number of them.

never had a problem playing video files from nas directly to tv. the odd file but probably due to my tv more than anything. i did notice that when you delete the .tb folders my tv can't find the video files etc until the nas re-generates the .tb folders. i don't know exactly what they were intended for but with them it works, without it doesn't! so they remain :smileyhappy:

also no problems playing anything really on my android phone using bubble upnp and mxplayer.

2 issues i have found:

a) i get email notifications for the shutdown saying "will shutdown in 0mins" which kind of indicates that a different time might have been intended to populate this field i.e. from a scheduled shutdown. I would really like to be able to do this, it can shutdown via web interface and notify when, it has a clock built in but no link between them to schedule this......unless i have missed something!?

b) i have the xbox compatibility option ticked in the media service section. my xbox finds the nas and all folders. displays pics fine and music works fine. But after navigating through the video folders (not via media center - as no windows machine in between) it can't list any of the video files?!

this isn't a major problem for me as generally my tv plays everything i need directly but on the odd occassion it doesn't the xbox usually did, so handy backup to have. also if this is an issue and not just me missing something then would be good to know for those who are looking to stream primarily via the xbox.

*** I have been playing about with this just now and managed to find one clip within that does play on the xbox out of all of them which is a WMV, all others are either MPEG-4 or AVI. MPEG-4 files are actually listed but unable to play. AVI's are nowhere to be seen. this might be a limitation of the xbox, previously it worked streaming from a windows 7 machine which may have been doing some form of decoding on the fly. if anyone knows would be handy to know.

any ideas?

thanks

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

If you are talking about deleting the share thru the nas manager. This is impossible as I have already a lot of data in this directory and I can not loose them.

Do you have another solution ?

Re: Announcement: New, limited release, firmware is available for all BA NAS units

I downloaded the firmware update and I got a page of letters/characters/jibberish... what is going on with this product?  has the firmware been released?  if so, please post a link that works.
