Can I connect and use it as an external hard drive using a usb to usb wire? I do not want to use it through my network but use it as a regular external hard drive. Is this possible?? Thank you

If you have the GoFlexHome network drive, unfortunately it does require a network for it to work. It cannot work through USB only. You may want to take a look at our regular GoFlex USB drives.

So 'Mapple Tree' what do we have to do if we want to connect Go Flex home to a HDTV? Any ideas?

Unless you have a dlna enabled TV then there is no way to connect the Goflex Home.
You'll need some sort of media player and don't make the mistake that I did and get a Seagate GoflexTV. Thankfully, I understand Seagate have stopped producing them. I gave up on mine and bought a Kaiser Baas wifi media player and it is fantastic. I wish I'd bought that first instead of anything from Seagate then I wouldn't need a Goflex Home. I can share any connected hard drive(s) and read and write to it over my network.
The only other option is to transfer your files from the Goflex Home to another drive to play on your TV, which kinda sucks.

I bought a Western Digital (opps did i say that WD word) Live TV to connect my network to my HDMI on my Samsunf TV
All the content, is not on the TV.
Now I have three WDLiveTV and one WD Live TVHub units... all work and sharring well with my 3 Seagate GoFlex Home drive... and computers, PTZ cameras, laptops, media servers... etc///
