Hi,
I've got the 3TB model set up at my house and am trying to access/play the movie files remotely over the web. I can bring up the files using Seagate Share but when I right click on the lower right 'Play' button and select 'Play' I get an error popup - 'a file system error occured on the server'. I have tried Safari, Firefox and Chrome.
The movies are accessible and play fine from my XBox 360 while I am home, but I don't even know how to access them remotely using the XBox over the internet, if that is possible. That would be my preference, as it's hooked up to the TV instead of watching on my computer monitor.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Tangor

The movies play fine on the XBox or my PC at home on the LAN. There's no problem there. When I'm away from home I would like to watch the movies on my MacBook Pro or XBox360 connected to the internet.
I'm not sure how to mount the drive for remote connection over the internet or how to set up the XBox360 to connect to the GFH remotely.

Your Xbox 360 doesn't have the capabilities to remotely access the GoFlex Home. DLNA is for local content only.
On your mac, just login to seagateshare.com and go to your movies directory. You should be able to stream any movies that are in the correct streamable formats.
Cheers,
Roby!

Ah thanks for the clarification Tangor, I see what you are trying to do now.
But I don't think it is going to work out. The limits of the seagateshare web app are pretty much viewing photos and even then it's hardly worth the trouble (use Flickr).
I wouldn't even try using the web app for video files on a local network. I tried opening my movie folder in the web app to check what filetypes it would play but after several minutes of waiting while it went through indexing the thumbnails I gave up and shut it down.
Any reasonable bitrate video is going to be too slow over internet. If you want to watch your videos in a remote location, get a portable hard drive.

That looks similar to a Seagate Goflex Satellite, but actually I was thinking of a plain and simple portable USB drive like a Seagate Goflex Ultra-portable.
I love my GFH as a NAS (in case I was coming over as too negative) now that I have it tamed. DLNA or smba shares work great, but for remote access I'd only bother with ftp. If I'm travelling and want to take more movies than will fit on the 16GB SD in my Android tablet I take my Goflex ultra-portable.

Hello, i´m watching my movies over the internet.
I have created an dyndns account and give a port free on my router. so i can connect to my seagate without seagateshare. I can connect over the hipplay app(seagateshare) or over the dyndns account in other apps (webdav).

Thanks for the tip boy85. I was considering getting a divorce from seagate and hooking up with dyndns.
I would have too, except dyndns have done away with the free accounts, I don't really need remote access and I wasn't sure that it would work any better with dyndns.

I just checked my Upload speed in speedtest.net and it is only around 1mbps. So that rules out any decent bitrate video over the internet from my GFH.
boy85 - when you said you were watching movies over the internet, what sort of bitrate are you talking about
