using old OneTouch III with Vista

I am trying to get my 4 year old One Touch III to work on a Vista PC.  Seems I had tried before as there was a Maxtor dir under Program Files, so I used Control Panel to uninstall but it left 2 dll files.

I then downloaded Vista zip and installed and sure enough it complains of the dll as per

the procedure entry point ?MXOReadRegatatYAHPAGOHatZ could not be located in the dll DRVIFNT.dll

dll file is dated 21 july 2008

what should I do next?  thank you

Re: using old OneTouch III with Vista

Which software are you installing for the drive?

Be sure to take a look at this website:

Re: using old OneTouch III with Vista

Thanks for your reply [I am in Oz so maybe 12 hour time difference].

What I failed to say was it is a Mini - full name is:

One Touch III Mini EDA- 9MN2A2 326

It does not say size but it is 80 gb

so I found this page http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=ot3&vgnextoid=cc03004f9f650110VgnVCM100000f5...

and went down to

Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition
R01E060 (Windows Only)
R01E100 (Windows Only)

and downloaded OT3_Mini_Vista.zip

as I say I then uninstalled previous ver before installing new

what does EMC mean on the link you gave?

Re: using old OneTouch III with Vista

I tried again but this time deleted the dll as well, but the App still does not recognise the Maxtor drive NOR does the drive come up in Windows Explorer.

New question - can I simply uninstall again and use the backup system in Vista Control Panel [I realise the button on front won't work]

The main issue is I bought a new drive recently [imation] but the actual backup software is a total WYSIWYG dog.  It does not have the smarts to detect a new directory on C, NOR does it allow you to edit the setting of an existing backup, so it is totally cumbersome to use.

I am hoping the Windows one will have PROPER professional backup operation as per the windows 3.1 system MS used [from Symantic] pre Windows95 - anyone know?

Re: using old OneTouch III with Vista

You can definitely try using the Windows Vista backup application, just keep in mind that it's not supported by us.

Re: using old OneTouch III with Vista

Thanks for all your help, but the Windows backup has not been improved since the dog that came with Windows95 and is based on Idiot Screens and not access to your Tree.

So given the imation software CAN be fiddled to do something like a proper backup [as long as you don't add a new directory to C], I have retired the old maxtor - but still have acces to files via my old XP PC
