I've had a BlackArmor 160GB drive for a couple of years now, and while I don't use it often, everytime I do use it, there's a couple of little things that are maddening. Hope I can get a few answers here ... thanks.
1) This drive seems to be particularly fussy (stubborn, actually) about the USB cable used. Some of mine work, some of mine don't. I don't know which, if any, is the original cable that came with the product. This occurs regardless of whether the drive is connected to a powered USB hub, or to a USB port on the motherboard (desktop system). These cables work just fine with other devices, including a Buffalo brand external drive (also powered via the USB port/cable) I purchased when in Japan a couple of years ago. What's so unique about this drive that it's so fussy?
2) When searching these boards for items pertaining to my drive, by using the part number 9HA2A2 as found on the back label, I only get 1 hit, and it's in Spanish. This drive was purchased from (then named) Tiger Direct (now CompUSA). Does this mean this might be a "grey market" device?
3) When attaching the drive, I get a blinking blue light, followed by a solid blue light (the one near the end of the case, where the USB port is) and the drive shows up, with a drive letter, in "My Computer". In order to get to the password prompt however, I have to access the drive (ie: double click it from "My Computer"). I can then enter the password and so on via the "Maxtor BlackArmor Manager" panel. Once unlocked, I get the solid blue light at the middle of the case on the left hand edge. I seem to recall however that when I first purchased the drive, the Maxtor BlackArmor Manager" popped up automatically. How can I restore this behavior, is it possible?
Thanks in advance for your time and patience reading, and hopefully answering these questions.
Phil
