Incorrect temperature values for a Maxtor disk

Is SeaTools supposed to work for all Maxtor drives? I ran a short self test on an older Maxtor drive, and it claimed that the drive temperature was over-heated to 253. In fact, the Maxtor drive was 34C, but SeaTools is misinterpreting the Maxtor data. If I ignore the temperature warning from SeaTools, the tests seem to be successful.

You might want to send this information to the technical support team. Could be a bug that most of us are not seeing at the moment.

My maxtor drive is also running at 253. Odd that it is the same temperature. Is there another way to check the actual temperature?

That means that the drive doesn't support the Seatools temp reading.   But the other tests should be OK.

¿Have you tried linux? You have hddtemp for SMART supporting drives:
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-monitor-hard-drive-temperature.html

You can also burn a bootable live-cd, or usb with a distro that has all the drive drive tools you need, office applications included, I recommend Knoppix.
