All Tests Unavailable with SATA/IDE to USB Adapter

Is it normal for all SeaTools tests to show up as unavailable when a hard drive is connected via and SATA / IDE to USB adapter rather than hooked up internally?

Just want to be sure so I will know that this doesn't mean that my Maxtor SATA hard drive, my Vantec adapter, or my SeaTools installation is at fault.

Finally, if this IS normal, is there another convenient (external) way to test multiple internal drives?  Other software?  Other adapters?  Etc?

Which Seatools are you using?

I have the same problem. Downloaded SeaTools today (1.1.0.14). Connected 2 external SATA drives (Toshiba, WD) via USB. No tests are available.

Re: All Tests Unavailable with SATA/IDE to USB Adapter

I have my seagate 500gb 7200.11 connected via a sata/usb external enclosure. When hooked up via sata or usb, I get 'test unavailable' for all test types.

Speedfans smart test works ok, so the problem seems to be with the seatools software itself. Funnily enough, seatools test works on the PC's internal drives (connected by sata) but just not for the drive connected via esata.

Seagate, what is going on? I need to return this drive but it looks like it is working OK (for small files). I wanted to provide the seatools test results to the vendor for a hassle free replacement.
