I have a new Seagate 2 TB GoFlex Desk. I formatted it as HTFS+ with journaling and case sensitivity. I left it overnight to do the first back up.
This morning the drive was still spinning, and I couldn't even enter my password. The only thing that would get the mac to stop spinning was to pull the USB cable out of the Mac. At that point I was able to enter my password.
Attempts to use the Time Machine to back up seem to simply hang.
Attempts to access the drive seem to cause the Finder to hang.
Running the Drive test hangs at about the 80% position (it would really be a good thing if the drive tester was robust enough for us to terminate a drive test in such circumstances: instead it seems to go into some sort of busy wait). Killing it actually destroyed the finder. Not only did the finder hang, but the "relaunch" option failed.
Please, send me instructions about how to either (a) get this to work or (b) remove all Seagate software from my system (in the latter case, I will return this drive to Costco, where I bought it, and give up).
Thank you.

I'm having exactly the same problem on lion (10.7.4). I ran the Drive Test and received the result "The selected drive failed its most recent diagnostic test," but there is nothing further. No information on what the problem is or what to do. What should I do?!?!?!
