Just installed the Seagate Free Agent GoFlex Ultra Portable Drive on my new HP Envy running Windows 8 Pro. It seemed to install correctly but the last message I received from the installation was: Seagate Dashboard Cannot be run under this version of Windows. Error: Operating system not running.
It installed ok and put the icons on my desktop but I also get the same message when I try to open it.
Any fixes or will this have to be a returned to Costco? Appreciate any suggestions.

The drive will work fine with Win 8. The dashboard software has compatibility issues. I don't even know what the dashboard software does as I just wiped all the Seagate stuff off the drive before using it.
I think it is just a launcher for Memeo Instant backup, but with Win 8 File History, why would you think about running that?
If you are determined to use the seagate dashboard software you can find a win 8 compatible version here

Thank You for the quick response. I too will wipe it out since I am only using it as a backup.

kenji57_? Hi, I read your suggestion about using Windows File History in Windows 8. instead of Memeo. I followed the instructions and all seemd to go well. I even created the rescue disc. The only concern is that when I open Windows Explorer, I see the NEW folder that was created called, WindowsImageBackup. When i right click on that folder, and choose Properties, it seems like there is only 16 bytes of info. in that folder. When I started the IMAGE, it said that the image would take about 61 Gig of space, which is about correct. It did take 38 minutes to do the IMAGE, but why do I only see 16 bytes of info. in that Folder / File ?? Thanks, Mike
