Barracuda XT 3TB and GPT

[ Edited ]

Hi,

i am using windows 7  32bit on P67A-UD7-b3 motherboard form Gigabyte.

my boot drives are 2 SSD on raid.

im thinking for buying the Barracudda xt 3tb dive and im planning to use it as a storage secondary drive only.

so my question is:

if i install the XT on a win7 32bit using GPT, will the drive be a single 3tb partition? or do i have to split the partition to 2tb & 1TB and have 2 partitions?

thanks

Re: Barracuda XT 3TB and GPT

You will get a 3TB partition with that board *nice board btw* it has an EFi bios and this enables the drive to show itself in full.

Re: Barracuda XT 3TB and GPT

No, that board has a normal bios, EFi bios is quite new and iirc the board needs to be late 2010 to early 2011 to have one.

Formatting it GPT should allow it to run as one drive though, but if you want to put an O/S on it you will need to use Discwizard V13 and run as a 2TB and a 746GB, this comes in handy as well, you can basically keep all your love letters from the mistress on the smaller partition and then de-activate it so the wife won't ever have a clue the 746GB drive even exists, then when you want to see the files on there again you simply re-activate it in Discwizard, like a secret compartment in a bureau :smileyvery-happy:
