HDDs don't need a driver. That, what needs a driver, is the CONTROLLER, at which the HDD is attached. WinXP has default drivers on board for the native controller of the motherboard and for some PCI controller cards. Some other controller cards may require a proprietary driver from the chipset manufacturer.
