Dear Forum,
I wonder if you could point me to the correct direction here….
I was using the above mentioned HDD to store my movies and series patiently and with quite some effort in organizing everything.
The other day, while I was copying over some files, I noticed that it took extremely long to copy 1GB over.
Also, when clicking on my computer, and then double click on the Drive itself, the Computer bar on top gradually fills with green but very slow, it takes at least one minute or two to load, but never finishes. Unfortunately each time I clicked on it, the whole pc was blocked after that and I was forced to re-start again.
I installed SeaTools for Windows, but the drive was appearing and disappearing.
I managed to format the whole drive (bye bye movie compilation
) – I know have 1.36TB left, but the bar on top keeps indicating me that something is wrong with it.
I never partitioned the drive, I always kept it with its original partition of 1.36TB.
I never heard any clicking sounds or whatsoever from the drive.
I used its power and sata cable to run on another drive and it just runs fine.
It can’t be a power problem.
I ran HD Sentinel, the screenshot attached showed lots of errors (533 bad sectors / 81 weak sectors).
Is this drive by any means dead?
Can it be saved somehow?
Would a zero fill be of help?
Should drives above 1TB always be partitioned?
These are my specs:
OS: Windows 7 - 64 bits
Cpu: AMD 1090T
Graph: Nvidia gtx 560ti
HDDs : one SSD + 2 other mechanical drives (1TB + 2TB).
Psu: Seasonic X-660
I never had any issues with drives, and I try to be nice to them ![]()
Only since I’m using Win 7 I seem to get issues…
Any hint or suggestion would be very helpful.
Thank you for reading me,
Kind regards,
Ken

EXACTLY same problem i had updated the F/W to CC1H (i have the exact drive) and it died on me like a month ago - i bought on ebay the Connection where u repair the HDD and i made it WORK just today - now i am backing up ALL the Data i have; add to it there is NO more F/W update for that!! Seagate should tell us if we can downgrade then upgrade again; i will NEVER turn the PC off till this is finished (copying that is)
if u do get a solution please advise. Attached is an SS for the different crud happening also
I have 1 Seagate 3TB XT Barracuda
2 x 2TB WDC Green Caviar
2 x 1.5 TB Seagate Barracuda (had 3 sold 1 and stuck with this lousy one)
Please someone in this forum MUST know if we can fix it (i used Seatools for windows BASIC tests said nothing is wrong but ADVANCED tests will destroy my data so any other solution?
Peace.
Roger
