how to remove data from defective drive

Need to return a drive for warranty repair (Pipeline HD .2 1T). Need to remove/destroy data before sending that drive back. Drive will not even spin up. How do I erase all the data without opening the drive and voiding the warranty?

Re: how to remove data from defective drive

Hi since you can not access the drive you have no chance to format it. Your choice is if the data is very sensitive destroy the drive buy a new one. Or just RMA it seagate does not have people looking for data from RMAed drives they are very strong on that and will destroy the data on the platters before anything else is done.

Could we see the component side of the PCB? Sometimes there is an easy DIY fix.
