Quantum Fireball LCT10 Driver?

All,

I have a Quantum Fireball lct 10 that came out of a Windows98 HP 650 MHz mini-tower.  The HP computer boots from the drive with no problem.  When I remove the drive and plug it in to a USB to IDE carrier, my computer does not see the drive.  My computer does see the USB to IDE adapter.

I've tried this in Win7, WinXP, and Linux.  Same results.  Windows says it cannot locate a driver for the Fireball.  Linux doesn't give me any errors-but it doesn't see, nor can I mount, the drive.

There are a lot of legacy .bmp's and  .jpg's that I'd like to pull off.  The computer does have a CD ROM, but burning the pictures to CD would be slow and painful.

Thanks in advance,

-Shawn

Re: Quantum Fireball LCT10 Driver?

You need a driver for the USB mass storage device, not the drive itself. Having said that, the fact that you can see the USB-IDE bridge board means that Windows is already using its native driver, so that's not an issue. The most likely problem is that your bridge board doesn't get along with your drive. Have you configured the HDD as Master?

Would it be possible to attach your destination HDD to your Windows 98 box, either internally or via a USB enclosure? Generic USB mass storage drivers are available for Win98.

That is a *very* good idea.  :manhappy:  I just wish I had thought of it before I made the post.  I will give that a try and let you know how it works.

Thank you very much,
