I have a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB external drive (white color) - model #: SRD0SP0. When I plug the connecting usb cable into it - it is very wobbly and loose. I can see the light is on, it is spinning (or whatever it does) but it just does not appear on the desktop. Obviously the connection is not good. I have had this issue with other drives and just took them out of the case and used a USB to SATA External Hard Drive Docking Station. However those disks were bigger in size than this little guy. The other disks were, I believe 3.5 in in size. Is this white drive actually a 2.5 inch size drive? Can I take this apart and access the data using a docking station that is designed for 2.5in OR 3.5 inch drives? I am posting here because I have no one else to ask and don't want to take this apart only to discover the answer is NO! thanks in advance.....

Yes, the portable drives are a 2.5" SATA drives just like a laptop drive and will work with a USB -SATA adapter/dock.
They only need 5V unlike 3.5" drives which use 12V as well, but you don't need to worry as the 5V and 12V power pins are separate. I have a GoFlex Desk base which works fine with 2.5" drives including my Goflex UltraPortable and an old netbook drive.
Do you need to take the drive apart though? The USB-SATA adapter should just pul off the end of the Backup Plus portable just like the GoFlex Portable, so that it can be swapped over for Firewire or Thunderbolt.
