Does anyone know if this adapter to firewire 800 for the Backup Plus is going to be restocked or has it been discontinued. I cannot find it anywhere but it is listed as out of stock on Seagates accessories. I have to decide whether to take back my 4 TB BP .

I don't know but it is no longer listed under accessories on the BackupPlus Web page.
It is quite possible that it's discontinued since USB3.0 is faster, but if your Mac doesn't have USB 3.0 ports that's not much use.
Good luck getting an answer from Seagate, but if it is no longer available they need to change their packaging and website.
The website still says;
Increase transfer speeds by upgrading to Thunderbolt™ technology or FireWire 800
"It is easy to upgrade to Thunderbolt™ technology or FireWire® 800 with add-on adapters (sold separately)"
And the box says
Mac users can increase transfer speed by upgrading to a Firewire or Thunderbolt adapter (sold separately)

I have the same problem!
I hope seagate is going to do something because else I have to return my seagate backup plus 3TB.
It's realy annoying that the packaging tells you it's compatible but that in fact it isn't because Seagate's service isn't all that great...

icutrauma1 - I meant the Backup Plus>Accessories page, though I see that since my post Seagate has updated the web page and the quoted text is gone and the accessories page removed.
Now they just have to do something about all the boxes in retail stores.
