I have a windows 7 homegroup set up. I followed the guide with the registry hacks. I tried to read up on that as well. Nothing I do ever gets the computers I'm trying to connect to to show up in the homegroup (it's called 'workgroup') when I browse to it. I tried the streaming, but it stutters too much...
According to Microsoft, you should be able to share with non homegroup computers, even macs and linux, so I don't understand why I can't even see the computers to try and log into them.

Something that you can try first though, is to restart your UPnP. Open the Task Manager (you can right click on the Taskbar, select Start Task Manager), then select the "Services" tab, then in the lower right corner click on the "Services" button. In the new window, scroll down and select "UPnP Device Host", then select "Restart".
ou can also renew your IP. Open the Command Prompt (CMD), (go to the Start Menu / Accessories / Command Prompt), then type this:
ipconfig /release then press enter. Then type:
ipconfig /renew then press enter.
If none of this works, see if you can see any of your files through the Media Server. You'll have to make sure that you have Windows Media Player configured to do this.

Hey I did the following and fixed my issues. Check your installed programs and I bet you installed windows live right around the time you ran into problems. Uninstalling did nothing for me.
