E sata drive detected in bios ... but no trace in windows

I have a Seagate Free Agent Pro 500 GB e sata hard drive. While the device shows up in the bios it is no where to be found in windows. Checked Device manager- nothing.. Went to disk management and rescanned - nothing... Works fine on USB but the e sata connection is puzzling.. any ideas??

Re: E sata drive detected in bios ... but no trace in windows

I get this with my external dock from time to time, one reason is the eSata lead has come loose at the MB end of things, I have a pci bracket that then goes to the board via a lead from it.

The other iirc is that it doesn't work unless the bios is in AHCI mode, if yours isn't and Windows was installed without the driver you will need to do a simple hack to enable it, let me know what you find first though, I don't want you messing with the O/S if it doesn't need it.

Can you tell us which motherboard you have? Is the ESATA port connected to a different SATA controller than your other drive(s)? The motherboard specification should tell you this.
