freeAgent GoFlex Desk connected to desktop or router?

I know very little about networking but am comfortable around the pc. After I connect the goflex to my desktop and sharing it with others on my home network can my machine be sleeping or hybernating and other pc''s still access the external drive? Will the seagate mobile app let me access in this connection or does it have to be connected directly to the router? Will it even work with a usb to ethernet adapter?

If you can shed any light on any of these questions i would be greatful... Seems there is no place to get specific instructions on what this specific model can and cant do. and how to enable the different features...

I can't say for sure, but I would imagine the files to share will be accessed through your C drive, so I would think you will need to possibly add Mac addresses of the PC's you want to allow access to in your router set up page and also make the folders on the FA shared ones through Windows, hth.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess all I can do is give it a shot... At least someone is trying to help... I'm not real successful with getting any replies at all from this msg board...

Re: freeAgent GoFlex Desk connected to desktop or router?

I connected mine to a Negear router and it worked for a week or so... so I know that it can hypothetically work without going through either computer... but soon after using it I started getting an I/O error and now it won't even work on the network after installing the dashboard software.

I really can't believe that it's so hard to connect such mainstream devices together... it's not like these are obscure manufacturers or anything, so I would expect them to work.
