had a virus, killed it, now I cant see any freeagent files...help?

Hi,

I have a 1000GB freeagent drive problem. I had a bot virus on my computer and my freeagent. I scanned and killed the virus with some microsoft tools and updated all my windows xp service packs.

Now when I turn on my freeagent I cant see any of my files on it. It shows a few folders (Seagate Sync, Autorun, FreeAgentDesktopNext, SetUp, System Volume Information), but none of my data folders show up.

I have reinstalled the Seagate software and tried to sync it, but it wont show the folders.

The data all seem to still be there, it's just not viewable...

any suggestions?

Thanks for any and all help, it would be such a drag to lose all my music and movie files!

Ohhhh You got this one, eh?

Hidden files, on this one...sneaky little viruses.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/display-hidden-folders-in-xp/

Show your hidden files....

Then you'll see them on the drive but they will seem a little faded out in color. Right click on one of the faded folders, select properties, then uncheck the box next to "hidden"

The folder shouldn't seem faded anymore.

Make sure you go back and hide the files again once you're done.

Best of luck! Lemme know if I can be of additional assistance.

To all users: If your data is stored ONLY on an external hard drive, then it is NOT a backup. A BACKUP is having the data stored in TWO or MORE locations. If it is only in ONE location, you don't have a backup at all. If the data is important to you, then have it stored in multiple locations to prevent data loss.
