Its a FreeAgent Go 9KW2AG-500. Ages back I accidently deleted it's parition data on Linux. I had some data on it so I didn't want to format the HDD. So I used some recovery/restore software to restore a sorta 'default' like Partitioning on the HDD to get it upto work again so I could back it up and reformat. I never got to reformat.
Recently the HDD stopped letting me copy too big files, or files in a batch, over. I could copy upto 100 or 200 mb folders comprised of small files. But if I wanted to say, copy over a 700 mb Movie, or a ISO of 6 Gb. I wouldn't work.I figured that 'temporary' restored partition was finally giving away.
I found a back up HDD and started formatting it tonight. But after emptying it. It wouldn't let me do a hard format. Tried deleting the partition too. Didn't let me do that either. However, it does let me do a Quick Format and use it as it is. I can copy files then, but I can see moments during the copying when the copying slows down a few seconds and then slowly resumes normal speed.I have no reading errors. Only writing errors. No errors actually, the copying just stalls at the very begining at like 10% judging by the progress bar, oh and the ETA keeps rising in the meanwhile.
I m going to run SeaTools later. Running chkdsk right now.
Also sometimes, when I move the hdd too much during use, and the wire sorta gets moved around too much and looses connection, the hdd makes a funny soft cat like sound and stops working(sound continues untill you pull it out). Is this normal for sudden loosening of the usb cable?
There are no sounds other than this during any operations on the hdd.
Any suggestions? The formatting has been stuck on 1% for ages.
