Before you do anything, make sure you backup stuff in the largest partition. You can search the seagate web site for upgrading MSS to CA, download the file, Mss2MCA_Win.zip. In this zip file, you will find a file called mca_v_3_5_47.bin. This bin file actually a tar file. Untar it, you will find a file called edamame.img, this is the firmware image that runs the unit.
Then follow the following link to prepare hard drive and load image file:
If you have any questions, post back to this board.

mca_v_3_5_74.bin is the latest firmware as far as I know. You can use an extern hard drive docking so that you don't have to up your computer.
First, you need to untar the mca_v_3_5_74.bin by running the following command:
tar -xf mca_v_3_5_74.bin
Your hard drive most likely be /dev/sd?, this is instruction on partition harddrive under linux:
Once you have all the partitions setup as described in http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Open_MSS-II "Replace Harddrive", run the following commands:
dd if=edamame.img of=/dev/sd?1 bs=1024k
dd if=edamame.img of=/dev/sd?2 bs=1024k
The whole process takes a while, since you will have to format the harddrive, copy over files. Once that all done, put the hard drive into the unit and restart your unit. You should have "brand new" unit.
