Invalid error when changing password

I'm attempting to setup new user accounts on my MSS-II (converted to MCA v3.5.74).  The default password that I'm using is "abc.123"  The Maxtor Manager complains that I've got an invalid character in my password.  So I tried to use "abc-123"  It complained again.  So.. I used "abc_123"  This time it worked.  When I go into the Account Management page and attempt to modify the password to "abc-123" I get this message:

New password contains invalid characters.
Enter a different password using only the following characters:
'a..z', 'A..Z', '0..9', '-', '_', 'ü..Ü', 'á..ú'
According to this error message, the "-" character is valid, but every time I use it, I get this error.

Obviously, the java script for validating the password is incorrect.

Re: Invalid error when changing password

FYI....I had a problem when I set up a new account with my new userid (under the older version software).

It told me I had an "invalid syntax character" which absolutely was not the case. Who knows???

Re: Invalid error when changing password

Just to make sure I wasn't completely crazy...  I downgraded my box to 3.1.28 to see if it had the same issue with the password I was attempting to use.

It didn't.

So there seems to be a regression with the latest software.

I have to say... this would be an awsome device for a Home Entertainment Network... if they just spent a little time making it work.

Re: Invalid error when changing password

It's funny how the (my) box doesn't recognize the newer software. From the admin function it says

"No system software update is available".  It think's it's up to date. I'll stick to the older s/w for now.

PS I've had the same thoughts on streaming to a home entertainment system. Anyone have any

suggestions on a moderately priced unit which functions well?
