I have had two Fusion NAS drives. Both seem to STAY connected (pingable and otherwise functioning) on an XP machine at work, but on the XP system at home, both of these drives "disappear" from the network in a matter of hours or days after a cold boot.
If the drive itself is powered down/up, it becomes discoverable again at its IP address, can be pinged and folders viewed, and just generally behaves normally again.
Apart from this, the home XP system behaves entirely normally, and other network devices don't "disappear" from the network.
I have heard rumors elsewhere that the Fusion drives might not be playing well with certain models of Linksys routers, and that is indeed a difference between the work and home systems.

Were you ever able to resolve your issue? I had similar problems with my Maxtor Fusion NAS and corrected it by removing the drive from the antivirus checking.
