Has anyone seen one for sale anywhere. At present Seagate isn't selling them as an
accessory so direct buying here is not available. I still don't understand why Seagate
doesn't want to sell the wires (for either WP or GFS)?
Does anyone know the specs for the new thinner barrel connector (inside/outside/polarity)?
Thanks

Let me know if you locate one. I was unable to find one on Amazon with those specs.

Me either.
I do wish they had used the same size plug as the Satallite at least that is available
from thid party sellers.
Seagate: please offer the cable as an accessory as it is propriatary
and no one else has one

Has anyone tried using a iPhone or iPad wall plug? Or car charger plug for I devices?

The problem is the barrel connector ... it appears to be propriatary and Seagate isn't
selling the wire as an accessory.

same problem here, I cannot locate a cable that would replace this one.

Yes, I think if they are going to use a propriatary cable, they should at least offer
it for sale as an accessory. At least the Satallite used a standard barrel size, so it
could be found 3rd party.

here are some info, the plug looks a lot like a standard EIAJ-01 plug.
looking around I found this site were you can buy some plugs:
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/dksus.dll?
you can also find it under the adaptaplug type A reference
here is the Wikipedia page for that reference the barrels:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_power_connect
look at the table at the end.
I also ordered a charger from amazon with almost the same specification and will test it once it is here.

I bought the parts (for use in my car with a USB charger) at tekkeon.com
PA-L23 (adapter plug - 2.3mm (OD) x 0.7mm (ID) x 10mm (L)) and MP1800-10 (short USB cable that works with plug) - you need both.

Could I use those together with a USB2 A-F to A-M extension wire?
9" is kind of short.
03-25-2013 08:06 AM
I would assume so, but it wouldnt hurt to call tekkeon and ask. They might sell an extension, or even a longer USB, and the lady I spoke to was very helpful.
The 9" was perfect for my application (in the arm rest of my car), so I stopped there when I found this. This was the only place I could find that sold the plug (although I didnt visit Radio Shack in person).

Mobile Device Adapter PA-L23 + MP1800-10USB Output Cable
worked fine with standard USB 2 A-F A-M cable. Although
it would be easier if there were a regular length like 3 ft or so.

For DC in all plug 2.35x0.7 to 2.5x0.7 are perfect.

Don't suppose anyone in the USA is selling that item??
international to USA from Italy is likely to to forever to get here.
For the short term the composite (plug + wire) approach works
as described

Also you can use a right angle plug 2.5x0.7

or a nokia phone charger plug 2.0x0.5.
