I have recently purchased a Segate 1tB External Drive. When it is plugged in no other USB connections work (particularly IPOD and existing Maxtor external hard drive 250gB). My model is: Serial Number: 2GHJPFL1 Model Number: ST310005EXM101-RK Any thoughts or suggestions Thanks in advance Mike

Try different combinations of connections into different USB ports. If all else fails, get a $15 USB PCI card and connect the drive to that. It will separate the signals so the computer won't make that mistake anymore. --We turn on ideas. Release the hounds.
Give a hoot. Backup your data on a second storage media.

I purchased a 1TB DESKTOP EXT DRIVE on Oct 17 2009 and have been able to perform a single instance of backup after formating it to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. I now have a problem with the drive. It keeps cycling thru and I've not been able to read/write to that drive. It keeps giving a whirring sound and the occasional clicking. I've switched its USB connection between the Belkin USB hub and the Mac to no avail. Attempts to eject it have repeatedly failed as well. Now I've data sitting in it and I can't access it. Details: Model: ST310005EXM101-RK Serial Number: 2GHK0YPR
