Please see Knowledge Base Article 207937. Please bookmark and subscribe to the Knowledge Base article(s) and review them frequently as they are updated periodically with the latest status. This is the best way to stay informed on recent developments. The Knowledge Base articles apply to the Seagate hard drives from the following families: (For firmware questions on other products, please see Knowledge Base Article 206091.) The ES.2 Knowledge Base article was updated today (Feb 2, 2009). See link above. Message Edited by STM on 02-02-2009 02:01 PM --We turn on ideas. Release the hounds.

The kb article just states "Firmware Recommendation" but I don't see any text. What it this....? Edited: The article is only visible when you select "english". PLEASE PUT A STATEMENT IN THE OTHER LANGUAGES, TOO!!!! (At least the english version. Otherwise, people will see no text.) Message Edited by Next7 on 01-17-2009 12:39 PM

Well, I hope the consumer service speed up the replies, I have six (4x750GB and 2x1TB) drives and 2 them will go by RMA (cannot be recognized by BIOS anymore), two them are 750GB SD15 still "alive" but was forced to stop to using it, and the last two are 1TB fw CC1F (all Barracuda's 7200.11). I'm waiting the firmwares update to fix this once and for all, I opened the case two days ago, but I hear it can takes as low as 6 weeks to get a reply ?! Fernando

What can someone do who has one (or more) of these drives installed on a NAS, and is unable to run Drive Detect? I cannot connect the drive directly to a PC because I do not have a desktop computer.

FYI. Thought I might save some people a lot of on-hold time. Here is my on line chat from January 16, 2009 2:12 PM PST Hello. How may I help you? Steve John: I am here for the 1TB Firmware error as explained on the URL http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207931 Jason H.: Sure, there will be a firmware update in the next few days, I would check back Tuesday just to make sure. Steve John: OK. Do I need to contact you again, or will it be freely downloadable? Jason H.: It should be available, but if it is not jump back into chat and we wil be able to get it for you . Steve John: Thanks

FINALLLLLLLLY, thank your engineers for us AlanM (or hit the one that sent out this bug, if it's the same one, hit him/her then hug him/her)... but wish it came out a bit sooner, like before my drive failed on Jan 12th... Lets hope that my drive won't fail again after this update... From G.S. EDIT: ok I have to wait a couple more days???... EDIT2: AlanM can you post a message again WHEN the firmware is actually available? Message Edited by gsiisg on 01-16-2009 02:21 PM Message Edited by gsiisg on 01-16-2009 02:22 PM

Yeah, me too. Looks like there's no firmware available until next Tuesday, so there's not a lot of point contacting Seagate until then. Hello. How may I help you? CS: hello CS: This is relation to your KB article Seagate KB 207931 CS: The 7200.11 new firmware CS: I have two drives that need updating to avoid the boot-of-death failure CS: I've already had to RMA a third drive that has failed and I want to avoid having to do it again CS: My drives are both ST31000340AS running SD15, serials are <deleted> Jason H.: Sure, let me check for you. Jason H.: Based on your serials, there will be an update released in the next few days. If you would I would check back Tuesday. CS: It's not available yet? CS: But you can confirm both these drives are "at risk" and need the update? Jason H.: Not that they are at risk, but there will be a firmware update released for your drives. CS: But they will need the update yes? As I said I've already had another one of these drives fail in this manner. Jason H.: I dont know that they need an update, just that there will be a newer revision released and it is always good to get the latest and greatest if available. CS: Uhh.... okay, I guess I'll have to try back next week and hope I don't lose another drive before that. Jason H.: okay, thank-you and have a nice day!!!
