I have a seagate freeagent pro 1 tb, and easata is no go! (as in esata will not work at all!) the rma dept has sent me another drive, esata still no, i talked to them one the phone, they say it my pc, or cable its not because i tried different cables, updated all my drivers for the pc that work with esata port, and tried different pcs, so it must be the drive, i tried options posted in the forums, and nothing helps, which i told tech supprot on the phone about the issues that people are having in the forums, as it must be a esata/ seagate issue, and they tell me, how the people & tech support on the forums, dont have ideas or clues or what they are talking about, pretty much saying they are morons! just to lets you guys know they said that! so now they are sending me another replacement, and i kow it will fail to, seems i will be done with seagate drives forever! either way!

Is the ESATA port enabled in the Computer BIOS? Have you tried the drive on another computer? Have you verified that your port works with any other drives? Have you check in the drive manager or Device manager to see if anything is shown for the drive? The "more on" the problem we know, the less we will sound like morons. The forum is volunteer so you get what you pay for. Most people will only reply if they know the answer, I'll take a guess, but don't blame me if I'm wrong. I recently had a co-worker that could not get a Seagate USB drive to work. It worked on all 6 other machines I tried it on. Someone had turned off most of the his system process in Windows and the Default USB drive would not install. So not all problems are related to the drive themselves.

Well i just found this out from a user on amazon: Not compatible with 64 bit vista or HP chipsets, September 9, 2009 Spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone today with Seagate.
The 1.5 TB FreeAgent XTreme software that comes with the unit is not compatible with Vista 64 bit operating system. It will not even load. I called Seagate. They tried hard but ultimately had no solution.
They send you an e-mail link to download 64 bit control software.
Controls software does load but will not recognize the Seagate exernal drive in eSATA mode.
I was finally told that the HP Chipset is not compatible with their eSATA software.
Also, previous reviews about hot swap are correct. The unit will not be recognized unless you unplug it (110v) and plug it in at the same time you search for new hardware with the device manager.
Too many problems if you are looking for a working eSATA speed external drive.
I will have to return or seek a warrantee fix.
