Hello all. First time poster, longtime user here.

I have a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB External Hard Drive, used on Windows XP SP3 and Linux Ubuntu, primarily. Tonight, a friend of mine put a .txt file on the drive that I needed, and then gave my drive back to me. When I went to use the drive in Windows XP, the drive worked fine. But then when I tried to access the text file, it said that the file was corrupted or unreadable- which wouldn't let me open it. So I went to delete it, and it wouldn't delete either. Said the same thing..Corrupted/unreadable. I tried to cut the file, hoping that would work, no go. I switched to my Linux computer and tried to delete it there, and it gave me a input/output error- not deleting it. I can access all of the other files on my drive and everything else works just fine..I just can't get rid of this ONE file.

Can someone help at all?

Thanks!

David Lee.

Try Bad Block Copy for Windows:

http://alter.org.ua/en/soft/win/bb_recover/

"Copies file ignoring Bad Blocks. If target file doesn't exist, instead of unread blocks ZEROs are written. If target file exists, its blocks, coresponding to Bad Blocks in source are not touched. Thus, if you have some copies of the same file with Bad Blocks in different places, it is possible to completly restore the original file. To do this you should run bbcopy.exe with same target, but different sources."

Got it! I actually had to run a chkdsk g: /f /r on it. Took 5 hours, but it found the problem right away and cleared the thing away. Thank you for the suggestion, fzabkar! If chkdsk hadn't fixed it, I was going to go with yours.
