No 64-bit support is planned at this time that I know of. I s n o t a c c e p t a b l e ( . ) This is my second purchase #1 750 GB. #2 1 TB. Your PC Requirements State: Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, and Business. No mention of 32 Bit only. The mere suggestion of Vista Ultimate almost always points to 64 Bit OS version's of Vista. I believe there are strong legal, if not just moral issues involved here. I think the dust storm is only just beginning to form. 64 Bit systems are here and have been here for some time now, and the numbers will only continue to grow & soon out number the old 32 Bit systems out there. I know my 64 Bit HP is here to stay. I think those of us who chose to lead the future deserve a ramped up (real) time frame.

I agree with bluesmoke, UNACCEPTABLE!! I just purchased a OneTouch....Ran home to use on my x64 PC, and BAM....error while beginning the installation for Maxtor Manager. Say what??? No x64 bit support???? No where on your package do you state it supports 32-bit systems only, nor exclude x64 bit systems? What's the deal? Especially with the listing of the Vista Versions....Most major PC manufacturer's sell their most popular PC's with Vista x64? Please explain! I feel a class action coming....stayed posted for more details..... Message Edited by techguru on 10-10-2008 06:12 PM Message Edited by techguru on 10-10-2008 06:13 PM

64 bit is not your typical home use. Nor is MAC (8% of the market) I know lots of software where there is no MAC version, same with 64 bit. It's $$$, programming time and how many users are out there. I tried XP 64 bit and gave up with it more then 2 years ago. XP came out in 2001 and in 2006 still not much support for XP 64 bit. Every version of software that stated it worked with XP does not work with XP 64. Why would you want the supplies software anyway... it's very limited in ability. It's for a home user that has eveything in My Documents. Plug it in and find some 64bit backup software. Message Edited by MrButkus on 10-11-2008 01:53 PM

64-bit isn't "typical home use"? That's your reasoning? You are aware that Microsoft intends -- along with many other OS vendors -- to bring x64 into the mainstream sooner than later, right? Why do people move to x64? Oftentimes it's to break the 4GB RAM barrier. Who needs to do this? Oftentimes, people that work with multimedia -- almost certainly, people with special storage needs. Not supporting x64 at this point is just bad business. It baffles me that your management doesn't see development of this as cost-effective. Those of us who use x64 today tend to be early adopters, and probably have a disproportionately high amount of influence in our respective IT universes. You're thumbing your nose at every one of us who has put our trust in your product. This hit on your reputation will cost you more than the development of 64-bit support (which, I might point out, you'll inevitably have to contend with anyway). And you are aware that 64-bit Windows OS have a smaller market share than MacOS, right? Cool your jets, people. If you don't like it, find a drive that DOES support 64-bit OS and use that one.

That's what we will do. Just so it's clear what's going on: 1) When you buy just about any PC (laptop or desktop) with more then 3GB of RAM installed, it comes with Vista x64, now. 2) Vista Home x64 is the typical version on low-end machines (to be used in the home, one might assume) 3) Vista can be used in a business, as well, and why not back up those systems?
I'm a developer and understand why x64 drivers lag behind, but this is 2+ years old (x64 versions of Vista) so why the delay. still? I can only assume they do not want this market so I will look elsewhere for all of my current and future purchases. Simple. Frankly, I don't think doing the 64-bit version should be terribly hard; they just don't want to do it so there is a chance, if we keep the heat on, that it will get done, soon. Hope springs eternal.

I have One Touch III Turbo 1 TB with FW800. When I plug the drive my laptop using FW400, Vista 64 doesn't recognize and ask for driver. Where can I find this driver for 64 bit Vista. I don't care about the backup tools. If I use USB it does recognize the drive, but the reason I bought the drive was for the firewire capability. Thanks Eric
