The software for the Dashboard won't load. Error 1920 window appears asking if I have sufficient privileges to start system services. My PC is running Windows XP and I am the only user, logged in as an administrator. Help please. Annie UK.

I have the same problem-- your problem is just a few days before mine. I have been trying to get to the support page for the last 45 minutes but it only came up in spanish. I finally got an "english" page and joined the blog/forum. I have never had this much of a problem setting up an external backup. Did you ever get answer? I can't get any other connection to support- I continualy get redirected. I guess I should just return the gadget. Good luck with your problem!

Does this link work?

Thanks for the link-- I used it and sent an e-mail to tech support after checking the knowledge base for my problem.
I followed the suggestions in the knowledge base and it verifies that I have admin authority. I have used this authority for 5 or more years on this box- I have installed numerous programs on this box and have never had an issue with admin authority. So I'm waiting to hear what I should try next. I have a WD portable external that just physically failed-- drive crashed with viberations- I also have a Seagate desktop external and it has performed well so I went out seeking another seagate never thnking that I would have this kind of problem. I am thankful that I had two external drives --being that one failed!!
I am backing up all data as usuall but mainly now for sure because current desktop is occassionally show chk dsk at boot up and plan to purchase W8 box as soon as available. If I get this admin thing resolved then I am hoping that the Backup plus will install on the W8 machine. I have a XP laptop and a vista laptop but I want this backup on this machine now.
Anyway i'm awaiting help from tech support.

I ran a test to see if I could backup to the external disk manually and it worked fine, just I suspected because that is the way I use another backup external. So therefore I could use the external but It kind of p.o.'d me that the software wouldn't work since I had to pay extra for that. But I won't do that again. I then turned off the modem, turned off the router, then turned off firewall. Plugged in the external Backup Plus. Selected "computer" in the start menu and clicked the "backup plus" drive (that's what the display showed in the drives menu) and then clicked the install icon and it installed. Then I tested the software and it worked.
I reconnected the firewall. Next I shutdown the computer Then I reconnected everything and re-started the computer. Tested the software again. It all works fine. I have not heard from tech support. I searched the net for a solution but none that applied specifically but there were some allusions to anti virus, etc. So I thought I would try described above. If that didn't work then I was going to go into accounts and open another account and give it admin auth too and try that but I didn't have to do that.
---FYI---There is a user guide on the seagate website but there is not one on the drive. The user's guide doesn't give any info about this problem but it does tell you how to contact tech support-- but once you get the software installed there is a button on the "dashboard" display for that. I wasted HOURS screwing with this setup and should have just gone about it the old DOS way to started with after it didn't work initially. Good Luck.

Tech support answered and they have an alternate software available if you are having an admin authority problem. They are working to find a resolution for the problem. Contact them and they will send you a link for installtion of the alternate software.
