My 1TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable external hard drive is not recognizable on either my Windows desktop or my Macbook Pro. The light blinks rapidly.
My kid removed it from the desktop before ejecting it safely. Could that have something to do with it?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, that might have something to do with it.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the flash troubleshooting and, since it cannot recognize the drive, are pretty much useless. It is getting power and all usb ports are working. My guess is that there is some error on the drive that won't reboot since it was unplugged properly.
I just got this a week ago and cannot lose the data on it. Please provide any additional guidance if possible.
Thanks.

I am sorry; if you have indeed tried all the steps in the troubleshooter, at this point your best option is to talk to a data recovery company.
Seagate Services is one option.

It's almost brand new, there's no reason this should be happening. It's very disturbing.
I ran through every step listed, I unplugged it, powered down the PC, unplugged the power cord (? why?), waited, did everything backwards, no go. I installed the Seagate tools for Windows but since it can't find the drive, it can't test the drive. It just sits blinking at me. I don't understand. This morning the light was on steadily and the computer could find it but not access it through Windows Explorer (every time I tried, Exploerer froze). So I rebooted my computer, and now the thing just sits there blinking at me, totally impervious to any attempts to access it.
It's like Poe's poem The Raven:
And the Backup, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my disc drive door;
And his LEDs have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!

I am really sorry to hear that. Nice poem, though.

And now I have the same problem
The connection at the USB port in my PC got a little stirred as i passed by it. I guess for a fraction of a second the Hard Disk got disconnected and then connected again. It has been blinking and undetectable since.
Did everything possible and as suggested at http://support.seagate.com/kbimg/flash/213055/2130
nothing happened
my 3 weeks old " BACKUP" (???) PLUS 1TB External Hard Drive just keeps on blinking and would not get detected
800+ GBs of data collected over 7 years...
Very frustrating...

hello everyone , i only signed up to tell everyone i also had the same problem and i have FIXED IT . look up hard drive repair on youtube there should be some tutorials , all i did was open my case , take out the internall hdd remove all the screws and there is also one hidden screw under the sticker so pull that off and remove that screw aswell . take off the cover to reveal a round metal disc be carefull not to touch it or get any dust on there . what you see is a an arm over the metal disc , what has happened is the arm is jamming the metal disc from rotating . all you need to do is rotate the centre spindle clockwise untill the arm goes back down into its original position , if the arm doesnt go back help it move down at the same time rotating the centre motor spindle . when it goes back down the metalic disc can now spin freely . now just put everything back togehther and it will work again.
mine happened when i accidentally dropped it while it was still plugged it , i didnt even drop it that far , i was sitting down and it dropped from my knee height to the carpet floor and it jammed up .
trust me there is no other way to fix it other than this way . plus you need special torx driver bits to unscrew the casing apart . its a simple ten minute fix if your confident to do it , or else take it to a computer repair place they can do it aswell for a fee .
