Backup Plus USB 3.0 Renesas Electronics Problem

Hi!

I have the following problem:
When i plug in the Backup Plus Desktop Drive into the USB 3.0 Port, the Drive keeps on connecting and diconnecting and is not usable with the USB 3.0 Port at all. When i plug it into the USB 2.0 Port everything works fine....exept the speed ;-(

I tried the same with a new Seagate Backup Plus Portable -> same problem!

Please check and provide new firmware!

Here is my System Config:

-Windows 7 professional 64bit

-USB 3.0 PCIe-Card using the Renesas Chip D720200AF1
newest Firmware 4015 and Driver Version 2.1.28.0  (also tried others...did not work!)
Activating or deactivating the power oprions in the Driver did not help

-Seagate Backup+ Desk
Revision : 0503
Neueste Firmware
Version : D802
Herstellungsdatum : Samstag, 6. Oktober 2012

-Mainboard; MSI DKA790GX Platinum newest Bios Version

Re: Backup Plus USB 3.0 Renesas Electronics Problem

Hi again!

Actually i tried another USB 3.0 PCIe-Card (also NEC/Renesas-Chip on it), but the behavior of the HD is still the same. Are there any others here facing that problem?

Please help!

[ Edited ]

I tried to get it working, but failed!

So I have now Firmware 4020 on the Renesas usb3.0 pcie-card and driver 2.1.36.0 but it still does not work.
I deinstalled a old Software from my pc, which was installed with my old Maxtor backup disk: Seagate Disk Wizard 11.0.8330

But I still have the same problem!!

Can you help, please?

Re: Backup Plus USB 3.0 Renesas Electronics Problem

A few things to confirm/check.
1) Are you using the same cable with both drives?  It would be odd to get two bad cables with the same symptom. Maybe you have one bad cable.
2) Are you using any kind of USB 3.0 hub?
3) Are you overclocking the computer? USB 3.0 will be more sensitive to overclocking than USB 2.0.
4) Anything in the Windows event viewer / Kernel log when the disconnects occur?

Re: Backup Plus USB 3.0 Renesas Electronics Problem

I found someone with a similar problem..maybe that helps to find the a solution:

Hello it seems that some external HDD drives /cases/docks that contains a jmicrom chip are incompatible with the NEc Renesas usb 3.0 chip found on the XPS.
Investigate before purchasing an external HDD solution.

This is for completely different hardware but maybe it's a hint..
here is the link to the Dell-Forum

I ordered a new USB 3.0 Pci-Card: ORICO PEJUS3-2P USB3.0 PCI-E Karte mit zwei USB3.0 Ports, EtronTech EJ168A

I keep you posted!! But it still would be nice to get the Renesas-Chip-PCIe-Card working with the Seagate-Disk!!!!

Re: Backup Plus USB 3.0 Renesas Electronics Problem

Event ID 51  is a delayed write failure.

That almost always goes back to the chipset, controller, drivers, etc.

I am sorry; I don't know what else to say at this point. I suggest you contact Technical Support.

Re: Backup Plus USB 3.0 Renesas Electronics Problem

Good news!!

I exchanged the Renesas USB 3.0 PCIe Card with another card with a ETRON-Chip! Now it works smoothly!

So i would recommend to everyone having that problem with USB 3.0 and WINDOWS 7 -> Do not use the USB 3.0 Renesas Electronics PCIe-Card!!!

My new (working without any problem) Card is called:

ORICO PEJUS3-2P USB3.0 PCI-E Karte mit zwei USB3.0 Ports, EtronTech EJ168A

Be carefull when you choose your card from this Company, because they have the Renesas/USB3-Combi as well!!

Happy Backup!!
