Backup Plus with Time Machine

Just purchased the backup plus today. It is the 1 Terrabyte. I want to use time machine to backup to it, but time machine gives the error following:

Time Machine could not complete the backup.

The backup disk is not in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which is required.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Re: Backup Plus with Time Machine

I'm sorry... Time Machine will only work if the drive is set up to be "Mac Only", as described in this article:

The easiest thing to do, if you just want this drive to work with Time Machine, would be to reformat it using Mac Disk Utility.

Backup Plus not Seamless with Time Machine

Right off the bat I formated OS X Extended Journaled.  Brand new drive.

Set Time Machine to use the 2TB single partition and let it run.

This is the Mac Only Method.

It ran as USB 2.0 (although it's a USB3 device) for several hours, copying about 450GB.  Fine.

Time Machine fails: "Time machine could not complete the backup." "Unable to complete.. An error occured while creating backup folder."

Electing the Disk fails (from finder):  " Disk wasn't ejected because one or more programs are using it."

Some folks wonder about Sleep issues... is that Firmware driven?  Does it respect or play well with Apples Energy saver prefs?

Is there even FIRMWARE in a HDD like this?  Wondering... since you have the whole GoFLEX layer to complicate things.

Force ejecting it DOES work.

When the disk comes back up Time Machine runs without problem.

So, let the finger pointing commence.

Sef.

I am unsure what to suggest at this point. Your best bet is to contact Customer Service directly.
