Hi everyone, I'm new here.
I am considering getting a Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive 1TB, but if so I also need a FireWire 800 adapter, to connect it properly with my mid-2010 13-inch MacBook Pro.
I understand that adapters such as the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk Desktop Adapter Firewire 800/USB 2.0 (STAE105) will NOT work for the Portable, but ONLY for the 3TB Desktop. The same seems to be true for the STAE123 version of that same adapter.
In an older thread, one mod recommended the FireWire® Adapter for Seagate Backup Plus /GoFlex portable drives, with product code A76KB, but as far as I can tell, that one is sold out everywhere, or at least pretty hard to track down.
What to do, what to do? Any help would be much appreciated. A million thanks in advance!

The Backup Plus accessories page shows the STAE102 firewire adapter.
As for the desktop adapters STAE105 & STAE123, I believe that it will work with a portable drive, but they require a separate power pack so it stops being portable.
I have used the STAE106 USB3.0 desktop adapter with portable drives and even old netbook drives, so I can't see why firewire would be different; the drives themselves are SATA.
