Installing A Seagate External Hard Drive

[ Edited ]

I'm hoping you can help me. I have a Seagate external Hard drive. Forgot how long I have had it. I lost the book to it. The computer I had it hooked up to no longer works. I am trying to use it on both my new computer and my laptop, but it doesn't register. All I did was plug it in. Do I need to do something else? Please help. I can be reached at [Edited: Removed personal information per the community rules and regulations.]Thank you.

Re: Installing A Seagate External Hard Drive

You should not need to do anything besides plug it in. It is possible that when your old computer failed it corrupted the drive making it unreadable by the new computer.

What version of windows are you using? With the drive connected, right click on Computer in the start menu or the My computer icon on the desk top.

Select Manage to start Computer Management.

Under Storage select Disk Management

What does it show?
