Reformatting 3TB Backup Plus with MBR on OSX

Hi I just bought a 3TB Backup Plus to hook up to my TV but unfortunatly it isn't recognized.  After a lot of searching I've discovered that TVs in general seem to have a lot of trouble seeing drives over 2TB.  If I format the drive in OSX I am only able to use the GUID partitioning scheme, however I've read that its possible to format the drive with MBR so that it could be read as a 2TB drive (given the max partition size of 2.2tb when using MBR).  I could deal with losing the 1TB if I could get the drive to talk to the TV but I can't find out how to format the drive with MBR on OSX.  The MBR option in Disk Utility is greyed out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Best

Do you have access to a Windows PC? You can do it there.
