Seagate Backup Plus 1tb STBU1000102 - Seagate Dashboard will not download to my computer Windows XP

[ Edited ]

When I try to download the dashboard an error message pops up at the end. What it says is below . Any ideas?

ERROR 1920.Service Seagate Dashboard Services(Seagate Dashboard Services)Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start Seagate Dashboard services.

Just downloaded the software from the website for the Dashboard and it seemed to go on fine now.

I could not get a solution from Seagate.  I have decided to go in a different direction.  I have downloaded the new version of Cobian (which is free), and I am now using the Seagate drive as a "dumb" drive using the Cobian backup software.  It is wonderful.

The drive is/was always a "dumb drive", it is just software on your PC that uses the dumb drive in smart ways.

Thanks for the great tip about Cobian backup though. If I ever need backup software I will keep that one in mind, it looks far better than the seagate bundled software.

Re: Seagate Backup Plus 1tb STBU1000102 - Seagate Dashboard will not download to my computer Window

Greetings!

I too was having the problem where the Dashboard installation would error out when trying to start the service.

I too tried to get the latest software from the Seagate site (and I did)... However, this did NOT fix the problem.

So, dug a little deeper into what the real cause(s) might be...

It turns out, that if you install the Dashboard software on a standalone machine, that everything is just fine. However, if you happen to be on a windows machine, that is running via an Active Directory (AD) login over a network... THEN the installation never seems to work.

The solution...

Open up "Services"...

Sort alphabetically, and then scroll down to Seagate...

Double-click the Seagate service...

Now, on the "log on" tab, enter a user name that has administrator rights to the machine.

One caveat... Although I personally have administrator rights to my work computer, I was not able to simply run the service. You MUST enter your network login in the log on tab for it to work (example: "DomainName\Username")

This is what fixed it for me. I love how the software will even backup my Facebook pictures!

Thanks digitaldart!

I definitely recommend that you try what digitaldart has suggested.

If you're still having problems, Seagate Support can assist, but it requires you contact them by phone if at all possible.
