I purchased a new BACKUP PLUS PORTABLE DRIVE and used it about three times to back up my hard drive. It now will not work and when I try to access it (do a back up) I get the following report...(it is my "G" drive)......G:\is not accessible, access is denied.
My seagate back up software that came with the drive tries to run but it will fail and give me a "close" report because the drive is now not "ACCESSABLE"
What would cause this and how do I correct it so I can use this drive again? THANK YOU.....UPITRR

Please do this:
1) Double-click on (My) Computer.
2) Double-click on the drive letter to access it.
Can you access it that way?
Can you run chkdsk on the drive?

Good morning...Thank you for your help...No, I cannot open it that way....I have not figured out any way to open it. Now it will open on an XP computer..But not on the Windows 8 computer....I DO NOT THINK IT IS A COMPATABILITY PROBLEM and I used it for a while and it was working fine....I changed the computer that I used it on and again for a while, it worked..But I deleted the files that were the back up for the FIRST computer and then later did one more back up on the second computer...(the one where it will stay as my back up drive). THAT IS WHEN IT STARTED GIVING ME THE NO ACCESS RESPONSE.
THANK YOU.........I am really puzzled with this problem and the drive is useless this way as I cannot use it on the W-8 machine.
I have not found a way to use chkdsk .

Well, it should work.
Does this help?
If not, I would suggest that you do this:
1) Backup all the data from the drive on the Windows XP machine (because we are about to erase the drive).
2) Take it to the Windows 8 computer.
3) Press Control + X.
4) Select Disk Management.
5) Then find the drive (Disk 1 or Disk 2 or something) in the bottom window.
6) Right-click on the drive's volume/partition. Select delete partition.
7) Once it is Unallocated, right-click and select Create New Partition.
8) Follow the wizard through. Make sure to select "Perform quick format".
9) Then you can load data back on the drive.
