I have two BackUp Plus USB 3.0 drives...super fast and reilable backups. However, with both drives, when the PC goes to sleep, the drives themselves will not wake up. I often have to pull usb cable or power cord out and back in to get them visible in Windows 7 again.
So, is this a drive problem or a USB 3.0 port problem? I have an ASUS P8P67 LE with latest USB 3.0 drivers.
Thanks!

You have the same problem that I have. I have both a GoFlex USB 3.0 and a Backup Plus USB 3.0 and My GoFlex starts and works on a "restart" but my Backup Plus does not. Alan with Seagate thinks its a driver and/or motherboard problem and if so then why does one drive restart and the other doesn't? Anyway, he gave me a few things to try. Neither worked for me. Give it a shot. I hope you have better success than I did. And since its hard for me to get to the cables after a restart / reboot completes I turn the machine off after the restart and everything comes back on when the system loads.
Good luck!
Thanks for your inquiry!
This probably indicates a problem with your USB 3.0 motherboard drivers.
Yes, nothing to do with the drive, but more probably a problem of drivers.
First thing I would suggest is this:
1. (Disconnect all other USB devices from the computer.) Right-click on Computer, select Manage.
2. Open the Device Manager.
3. Within the Device Manager, find the drive under Disk Drives. 4. Right-click on it and choose Uninstall. 5. Wait a few seconds for the icon to disappear, then disconnect the device from the computer (unplug the USB cable). 6. Reboot your computer and wait until Windows is fully started. 7. Reconnect your drive, then reboot and see if the problem recurs.
8. If it does, go back to the Device Manager.
9. Open Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Find the drive's entry there as "USB Mass Storage Device". If you have trouble finding which one it is, unplug the drive and look for the one that disappears. Then replug it and the one that appears is the one you need to deal with.
10. Once you know which one it is, right-click on it and choose Uninstall.
11. Wait a few seconds for the icon to disappear, then disconnect the device from the computer (unplug the USB cable). 12. Reboot your computer and wait until Windows is fully started. 13. Reconnect your drive, then reboot and see if the problem recurs.
14. If it does, check with the manufacturer of your motherboard (or the USB controller card, if applicable) to see if they have updated drivers.

It's hard to reach the cables?
You can disconnect them from the drive side; you don't have to disconnect them from the computer port side. At least, I don't see a reason why you couldn't just do that.
But then again, maybe you've sort of set the drives back in a place where they're hard to reach. In that case, forget I said anything.

Thanks for the tips...I will try it...this is so frustrating because these drives are SUPER FAST and the backup software has actually been a joy to use. It is just frustrating to have to unplug them after the PC goes to sleep. The drives themselves will actually sleep and come back up on their own, as long as the PC doesn't sleep. I got one of the drives for free but purchased a second 3TB drive but I may return the one I purchased because this is just a showstopper for me.
