Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

I can't seem to find the Backup plus interface adapters for sale anywhere. Not even on the Seagate site.

Do they exist yet?  Can I order one?  Does any retail store carry them?

If they don't exist yet, when do they come out?

I'm excited about Backup plus as a Mac user and video editor.  Want to buy one and get  a Firewire 800 adapter ASAP and when I upgrade my machine, I'll want Thunderbolt.

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

Just to clarify, I'm looking at portables rather than desktop at the moment, and am interested in availability of both

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

Good news and bad news.

My understanding is that separate adapters will not be available until later this summer hopefully. Not right now. So, sorry about that.

The good news is that GoFlex adapters do fit Backup Plus drives, so perhaps one of those could be a stand-in until then? It shouldn't have much performance difference. It won't look exactly the same as the Backup Plus adapters will, but the functionality will be the same.

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

Thanks, this really helped. I had the same question, and I was searching everywhere like a madman. However it seems a bit strange that one of the selling points is the fact that the included adapter can be upgraded to a FireWire 800 and/or Thunderbolt connector, but neither exist. Furthermore, no one thought about informing potential customers of this. I don't think it is very nice to imply that these features are available when they actually aren't yet.

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

I am a little put out that the adapter is not available. The box said nothing about being available soon and the Best Buy dude did not have a clue. I bought this for daughter's Mac book pro and she leaves for college soon. She takes a lot of pictures she wants to backup separately from Time Machine. So I partioned her drive, but USB 2.0 is slow for today's large photo files.

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

I agree that it's disappointing that the new adapters aren't available, but AlanM said the old Goflex adapters work, they just don't match the appearance of the new drives perfectly.

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

I want to make sure I buy the right adapter...I've got a 3tb Backup Plus desktop, and would like both a thunderbolt and a firewire adapter...looking at the pictures it's hard to see how any of the adapters will fit my drive.  Can someone point out which adapters are the appropriate ones?  It looks like the options are:

1) Firewire: GoFlex™ Upgrade Cable — FireWire® 800 Model #STAE102

2) Firewire: GoFlex™ Desk Desktop Adapter - FireWire 800/USB 2.0 Model #STAE105

3) Firewire: GoFlex® Desk Desktop Adapter — FireWire® 800/USB 2.0 V2 Model #STAE123

1) Thunderbolt: GoFlex® Desk Thunderbolt™ Adapter Model #STAE122

2) Thunderbolt: GoFlex® Thunderbolt™ Adapter Model #STAE121

Thanks.

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

Yes, all of the adapters for GoFlex Desk will fit the Backup Plus Desktop drive.

The color scheme and external shell won't necessarily look the same, but they should function just fine.

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

Even with this information, I can't find a store or on line site, including Seagate, that seems to offer one of these.  I too want to take my backup plus from USB 2.0- to firewire.

Can you point me to a site that has inventory?

Thanks

Re: Where can I find Backup Plus adapters?

Yes, you are right, now that I look at the Seagate site. It appears the ones you want are on back order.

Here are some.
