Backup Plus and Seagate Slim

my first post so bare with me:

i thought it would be a good idea to back up our 2 laptops and 1 desktop.  1 runs on windows 7, i runs on vista, and my laptop runs on a little bit of everything

I backed up my laptop first.  I used the Norton Security Suite to do the backing-up onto the Seagate.  I guess I have the OS, programs, documents on the Seagate Hard drive now.  Can I call the backup a recovery disk also?

 I found the settings where I can view my backed documents.  I can click on a document but there is nothing inside, is the document there or not?.  Is it safe to assume that it is impossible to edit a document inside of the Seagate Hardrive?

Now, if I backup my desktop next, how does the external hardrive differentiate between backed up computers?

Hi there. If you used Norton's to back up your documents and data, you'll want to check with them about the specifics on how the data is stored.

The drive in that case simply functions as an empty storage container and doesn't have any bearing on being able to recall the data or editing documents.
