I have a backup plus portable drive newly purchased. I plugged it in my usb port and the driver installed automatically and I have been using for about 2 weeks with no issues. Now the problem; windows sees the drive, and it shows up in explorer, etc. Yet I am unable to access the files. I cannot read or write to the drive. I checked permissions via windows, and it is configured to allow full control from all users. Any help is appreciated, right now I cannot access any of my files on the external drive.

Please run chkdsk on the drive to see if that helps.
Did you ever connect the drive to a Mac?
Can you access the data from a different computer?
Could you please clarify what you mean when you say you can't read or write to the drive? Do you see the files/folders on the root level? But they just don't open?
