1.5 tb sd-17 needs firmware upgrade

Okay, So I have called tech support(waited 48 mins until someone answered) I have tried the online chat(waited over 30 mins, just to get disconnected as I typed my first sentence.) I really need to get my firmware upgraded today, Since my kids are out and it would be a perfect time to do it. I have (2) 1.5 drives st31500341as, with pn ending in 300. Both have sd-17 firmware on them. How can I get intouch with someone that can give me the firmware without waiting onhold for another 45 minutes or sitting at my desk waiting for some to get on the chat.

jschwall I got the firmware (not from Seagate of course as they won't reply to me). Send me a private message with your email (can't reply here or they will delete my reply, non-sense forum rules).

Sorry to say but you prob wont get the firmware today especially from seagate. Even if you do some people have even said it didn't fix there problems. Seagate said that they wont even release the link to the firmware till sometime next week.

Re: 1.5 tb sd-17 needs firmware upgrade

[ Edited ]

For the record, the firmware I have is the CC1H and SD1A versions which applies tothe following ST31500341AS drives:

P/N      : 9JU138-301
Firmware : CC1F, CC1G

P/N      : 9JU138-300 ,366
Firmware : SD17, SD15, SD18

This is the fimware that was released a while ago to fix the "freezing" of the 1.5 TB drives, specially on RAID configurations. This is not the firmware that Seagate is supposed to be releasing to fix the "bricking" issue where a 7200.11 drive will not be recognized after a reboot (or it will show 0 GB).

Re: 1.5 tb sd-17 needs firmware upgrade

jschwall , the SD1A firmware released a a couple of weeks ago for the ST31500341AS does appear to fix the RAID/NAS issues with your drives. Check article ID 0235 on Drobo's support site: http://www.drobo.com/support/knowledgebase.php

Article ID 0235: Does Drobo work with the new Seagate 1.5 TB drives?

Firmware version: SD1A

Model Number: ST31500341AS
Part Numbers: 9JU138 -302

To update the firmware on your Seagate drives, please contact Seagate Technical Support at 1-800-SEAGATE (1-800-732-4283) in the US and Canada and 00.800.4732.4283 in Europe.

Note: Only the above mentioned Model Numbers /Part Numbers / Firmware versions have been re-qualified by Data Robotics. Please do not use other unqualified Seagate 1.5 TB drives with the Drobo. The unqualified firmware versions are SD15, SD16, SD17, SD18 and SD19.

As I said I got this firmware if you want it. I have applied it already to my  ST31500341AS without problems.

Re: 1.5 tb sd-17 needs firmware upgrade

I returned my seagate and picked up the WD10000LSRTL and works great. Worked the first time I plugged it in and has been working great ever since. I guess this will teach me to try something new again.

They have anounced a new firmware for the 1.5 TB as well, but it hasn't been released yet. See http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207957
