1,5TB, Firmware problem or Fault drive?

Hi, I have a new ST31500341AS Firmware Revisione: SD17 on Windows XP Pro SP3.

Sometimes PC freeze and sometimes HD do a not nice TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC-

SeaTools for Windows v1.1.0.21 do not pass Short and long self test

and HD Tune report Bad Sectors but do not finish test because PC crash.

Is it a Firmware problem or Fault drive?

P.S. 24 houres ago i opened a support case for information on firmware update for my drive. But no answer. Is it normal?

Thanks. Bye.

Re: 1,5TB, Firmware problem or Fault drive?

Very high probability for a faulty drive. While the freezes might be related to the firmware problem, the other symptoms definitely aren't

The known firmware problem for this drive

  • Does not cause any strange sound
  • Does not cause failures in short/long seatools test

Hope this helps, Martin

Re: 1,5TB, Firmware problem or Fault drive?

Hi:

for what its worth, my SD17 did cause a failure in the long test in seatools for Vista. However I agree with the other poster loud/unusual noises wouldn't be firmware. you need to phone tech support for the updated firmware. They gave me sd1a and it fixed my problems. I also had a 341as with sd17.

hope I've helped.
