cool, cheers mate
I get the impression we need to keep this one tight.

btw the new ones chirp less if at all, old ones chirp much more and louder.

Just adding my drive to the growing count of chirpers...
Model: ST3000DM001-9YN166
Firmware: CC4C
Using AMD platform, HDD is connected via IcyBox USB3 dock
Disabling the APM has stopped the noise and the rapid load/unload count for now guess ill have to add this so the startup until there is a better solution...

`btw the new ones chirp less if at all, old ones chirp much more and louder.`
-> i agree, but the `chirp` is not only problem!
mine hitachi `chirps` similar - once a day when computer powered up.
with my new disk i thought i disabled APM successfuly on OS startup, because there was near none `chirps` - but then i looked to disk info and `head parked count` still rises rapidly!!! 8O
With the chirp sounds i at least know that darn hated annoying APM is still enabled and kicking! ![]()

@ Cantbecanit: nothing personal, but I would suggest that if you're done,
than we are in need of somebody else being the "interface" with seagate.
@ Admin: is there somebody else willing to play this role? Or have we to look somewhere else?
I'm afraid you may have misunderstood.
Nowhere has Cantbecanit claimed that he is any sort of interface with Seagate. In fact, he has explicitly stated the opposite several times.
Nowhere have I or any admin/mod claimed that he is any sort of interface with Seagate. In fact, I have explicitly stated the opposite at least once.
SeaGurus are not Seagate employees - they are Seagate forum users who have gone and continue to go above and beyond to help other members solve problems - or just offer advice on a wide range of questions.
For a Seagate interface, AskTheLeaf, STX_Monk, MountainTech, MapleTree, and I are available.
As far as this particular issue goes, I fully intend to communicate any information I can whenever I receive it. It's just that I don't have any at this time, other than a definite assurance that, whatever the cause of these drive noises, there is no increased risk of data loss or drive failure.

`definite assurance that, whatever the cause of these drive noises, there is no increased risk of data loss or drive failure. `
ALANM -> are you sure that rapidly rising of `load cycle count` doesn`t increase risk of drive failure (not now, but after year, two...)
mine 3TB did about 100 cycles for one hour on - for example my 2 year old Samsung has 2000 cycles after 2 years of daily usage...
If i use the Seagate drive just 8 hours for a day, that's 300000 load cycles for a year and then the drive is already in danger according my knowledge...

You are comparing different drives from different manufacturers designed differently. I don't think that's a fair comparison you are doing.

This is normal, i dont know about everyone but i think most of the users getting this weird sound.
I too have ST2000DM001 make this type of sound

bought about 2 months ago, and still running without any problem.
Help me with this too ST2000DM001 HD Status?

The noise is the now imfamous chirp.

GLOTIZ ->
`You are comparing different drives from different manufacturers designed differently. I don't think that's a fair comparison you are doing.`
Can you specify clear how is this seagate drive `different` except it is manufactured by seagate?
different segment of customers?
not performance desktop HDD?
some revolutionary technology that allows millions of parking cycles without endangering the drive???
I get no clear response from admin, that the data is not in danger after year of use and 300000 head parking cycles -> just because even the most expensive or specialised drives aren't rated for more than million.
