Re: 3TB Barracuda STBD3000100 Making Weird "chirp" Sound?

[ Edited ]

XenonKilla, I'm sure most here are aware of 3rd party apps that can disable APM. But I assume most people here want official FW fix from Seagate. Not everyone has their drives connected to windows pc to use these apps. And if you do have windows and can run that app do you really want to keep disabling APM manually every boot for the rest of the time that you have this drive? I certainly don't and would very much appreciate FW fix.

Are you serious right now??? Go read my post on page 10 which is 3 posts down!! I already said "I don't see why it would be a big deal to just release a FW that permanently disables APM". Then go read the rest of the thread and see who has been the one bitching about a resolution the entire thread!

Also when I posted the info about CrystalDiskInfo I was simply trying to INFORM PEOPLE OF THE TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO GET RID OF THE CHIRP ON THEIR DRIVE!!

Furthermore, don't try to act like you know what EVERYONE ELSE is or isn't aware of. There are PLENTY of people up in this thread who DIDN'T know about CrystalDiskInfo being able to disable APM! I have used CrystalDiskInfo before and I didn't even know that option was in there because I never gave a rats **bleep** about disabling APM on ANY of the drives I have ever owned.

Typical MAC user I guess. I thought MAC's could do EVERYTHING including running Windows? Why is it every time I get on a forum I always see Crapple users complaining that they can't do this and that? Funny how MAC users always boast about how great their MAC is yet they always have to let everyone know how they can run Windows on their MAC as well. Well why the heck do you need to run Windows if your MAC can do EVERYTHING?? Funny how you rarely ever see PC owners boasting about how they can run OS X on their PC!

Lets chill guys, Xenon has been helping identify the problem from page one, when a solution is available you guys will be the first to know, so stop attacking each other and be nice.

Yikes, what has gotten into that guy. I'm sorry if I didn't read every single post in this thread but that's no reason to get all personal like that. I don't even own a Mac or any Apple product for that matter. But this is getting way offtopic.

What's gotten into me is that I cannot stand when someone tries to put their two cents in and doesn't even know what they're talking about. Don't reply to someones post and try to put them on blast if you don't know what you're talking. Furthermore don't try to speak for the entire Seagate community saying that "most here are aware of 3rd party apps that can disable APM" when in reality you don't know that for a fact and the posts made by other users in this thread have clearly proven that.

All I'm saying is, next time you decide to go quoting someones posts and call them out on their reply, make sure YOU YOURSELF know what you're talking about before you end up making yourself look stupid.

Re: 3TB Barracuda STBD3000100 Making Weird "chirp" Sound?

Ok just to keep you up to date, as of yet there isn't any news other than it's still being looked into, one thing I am thinking of suggesting is to get one of you to be able to return your drive FOC so the lab can run tests on one that is actually known to chirp if they are unable to replicate it, not that that is the case at this time afaik though,

I will update you when I know more, but I wanted you to know it's not been swept under the carpet, and I hate it myself when I'm expecting news and it doesn't arrive,

Regards Cant.

Re: 3TB Barracuda STBD3000100 Making Weird "chirp" Sound?

They dont ´t have to replicate the problem, we already said it´s caused by a feature called APM which shouldn't be enabled in the first place for a 3,5" hdd. The whole forum is full of threads about this issue. It shouldn´t be that hard to release a firmware without APM :smileyfrustrated:

btw. I don´t know if you aware of this, but the whole 1TB Plattern series is affected by this too (ST1000DM003, ST2000DM001, ST3000DM001) maybe some more

Re: 3TB Barracuda STBD3000100 Making Weird "chirp" Sound?

I 100% agree... The source of problem is clear as finest diamond, making `THE FOG` with words about `testing`, blaming Intel, blaming bad power supply etc. is just WASTING OF TIME :smileysad: At first I don't understand how big company like Seagate can ever send these product to stores and next half year make a `dead bug` about complains or trying to act like this issue is a `great feature` and not a failure....

Re: Please PM me your serial number(s)

Returned mine to Dabs at the end of last week so can't give you the serial number, I plan to rebuy the drive once this is all sorted out though.
