(Seagate reps and apologists on this board I am looking at you),
I'll assume that is directed towards me shall I?
Have you ever considered it's the consumer demand to make things go faster all the time that has led to shorter life HDD's in recent years?
I can assure you it isn't only a Seagate thing, the one thing I've learned over the last few years is that all HDD's are more likely to fail than ones from pre 2007, the worst of the bunch are 2.5 laptop drives which are found in the portable removeable HDD unit's like Freeagent, Passport etc, next up is the Eco Drive's, quite why I have no idea as the fact they are slower should mean a longer life, but it doesn't seem that way,
Next up we have how the drive is used, just look at car's in the street for clues on this one, you can have one guy who has no trouble with his car, but another with the same model is always in the garage with it, normally this comes down to how the driver's ability and care of ownership is, one drives good and another thinks the red line is simply another full gauge, one drives along the road, another can't stop hitting the kerb, it's the same with PC component's, you simply can't odd's for what happens once a product has left the factory,
Anyway all through this and especially at the beginning of the thread I had to ensure all care of ownership issue's got covered before blaming a defective product, it's always been in the back of my mind that there could be an issue within the drive but to find out if it is that you need to do some detective work and hence why I went after the info of who was running what etc,
I've also told user's who were worried to return for refunds if they feel they could be left with a short life drive, some like Ben took up that option but also added once the issue is solved he will be buying one again, because other than this chirp he finds the drive to be everything he was looking for in a drive, I've also been accused of having no life because of the time I spend here trying to help other's, what actually is the truth of the matter is I'm a mature man who has been self employed for over thirty year's now who loves to tinker with gadget's, and as I pick when I work it gives me a bit of time before I go to work and then again when I come home after while winding down before bed, everything I am is of my own building, I never had higher education, nor any apprenticeship, the only thing I had an advantage on was I had a grandfather who built the electrics in the original British one of these in the 1960's
Anyway, there comes a time when you look around and wonder if it's worth bothering anymore, some of the people have been very graceful about this, sitting waiting knowing that someone is working in the background to provide a solution, a few other's have been simply buy a dress on Friday, wear a dress on Saturday and return a dress on Monday about it, so if you no longer see me posting anymore, and if that last post of your's was actually aimed partly at me, know you just potentially reduced the eyes around here a bit more.
