Have you tried the latest BIOS update (Version 1001, 2010/04/29) ?

Choose the Socket775 Model Series from the drop-down list.
Yes. I am on the latest BIOS already(version 1001).

Got a mate who I just installed a 1TB 7200.12 for. It causes POST boot lockup on:
"Auto-Detecting AHCI PORT <#>"
Where # is the port the 7200.12 is plugged in to. I updated to the latest BIOS version for my mate's motherboard (Asus P5K-E/WiFi-AP) but it didn't help at all. The only way to fix it was by setting the SATA controller mode to "Enhanced" and "IDE" - which allowed it to boot fine.
Note that this is not related to any OS issue or anything like that - since it is at the BIOS Power On Self Test (POST) screen. Interestingly if AHCI is activated, the PC is booted without the drive installed, then it is detected and works fine if hot-plugged while the OS (Windows 7 x64 in this case) is running.
Very strange indeed - also annoying. If this issue exists with my mates P5K-E WiFi AP then I am concerned it will also exist for my P5K Premium. Running IDE mode is not an option for me.
Please help to sort this out, Seagate. I've been running your drives exclusively in my home and customer PC setups since 2003 and it's things like this that would lead me to look at options from other companies.
